Arthur Forrest,
TV director
Arthur Forrest, 95, a television
director who retired five years
ago after more than 65 years in
the business and directed the
NBC broadcast of the Tourna-
ment of Roses Parade from 1977
to 2017, died Oct. 25 at a hospital
in Washington. The cause was
respiratory failure, said his wife,
Marcy Forrest.
Mr. Forrest was born in Brook-
lyn and grew up in the Bronx. His
television career spanned the
gamut from janitor to camera-
man and director. His directed
credits included Jerry Lewis’s
MDA Labor Day Telethon, “The
Dick Cavett Show” and “Whose
Line Is It Anyway?”
For the past 27 years, he had
lived in Chevy Chase, Md., com-
muting as necessary for assign-
ments in Los Angeles and New
York.
In Chevy Chase, he led children
on Halloween costume parades.
At Christmastime, he put on a
Santa Claus suit and visited
neighborhood children in their
homes.
Sedgwick Moss,
travel agent
Sedgwick Moss, 89, a Washing-
ton travel agent for almost four
decades with Overseas, Gant and
VIP Travel until retiring in 1993,
died Oct. 22 at a nursing home in
Falls Church, Va. The cause was
congestive heart failure, said a
daughter, Ginger Moss.
Mr. Moss, who lived in Arling-
ton, Va., was born in New Or-
leans. From 1955 to 1976, he was a
travel agent for American Air-
lines.
June Martin,
Girl Scout official
June Martin, 97, who was an
administrator for the Nation’s
Capital council of the Girl Scouts
for 15 years, died Sept. 30 at an
assisted-living facility in Long-
mont, Colo. The cause was de-
mentia, said a daughter, Kristina
Linzer.
Mrs. Martin was born June
Johnston in Olympia, Wash., and
lived in the Washington area
from 1960 to 2000. She was a Girl
Scout administrator from 1980
until the mid- 1990 s and received
an award for making Girl Scout
memberships available to at-risk
girls.
She moved from Alexandria,
Va., t o Massanutten, Va., in 2000
and then to Colorado six years
ago.
Keith Wauchope,
ambassador
Keith Wauchope, 79, a retired
Foreign Service officer who
served as U.S. ambassador to Ga-
bon from 1989 to 1992, died Oct.
10 at his home in Lovettsville, Va.
The cause was complications of
treatment for leukemia, said a
son, Ian Wauchope.
Mr. Wauchope was born in
New York City. He served 30 years
in the Foreign Service, including
posts in Hong Kong, Chad, Eri-
trea, Mali and Liberia. He retired
from the Foreign Service in 1995.
Thomas Wendel,
company president
Thomas Wendel, 73, the presi-
dent and chief executive of Inves-
tigative Group International, an
executive search and investiga-
tive company, died Oct. 20 at a
hospice center in Scarborough,
Maine. The cause was cancer, said
his wife, Brenda Wendel.
Mr. Wendel was born in
D eWitt, Iowa. He worked for Ar-
thur Andersen accounting in Chi-
cago and Houston, rising to part-
ner, before moving to the Wash-
ington area in the early 1990 s.
He was chief financial officer of
Garfinckel’s department store
and vice president of finance for
Scripps League Newspapers be-
fore joining Investigative Group
International, where he was a top
executive for 20 years.
H e had homes in Potomac,
Md., and Portland, Maine.

sparkedthe beginning of his interest in labor
relations.After the war,heobtained his B.S.
degree fromthe CornellUniversitySchoolof
IndustrialandLaborRelations,receivingthe
Daniel Alpern MemorialPrizefor scholarship
and leadershipand graduating in 1948.
He then wentontomatriculateat Harvard Law
SchoolandgraduatedMagnaCumLaudein
1951.
From 1951-1987, he practicedlaw and became
apartneratCovington&Burlingwhere he
specializedinemployment law,energy regu-
latorylawsand contracts.Duringthe 1960s,
he was an activemember of the Bar Associ-
ationof the DistrictofColumbiaand at one
pointservedas chairmanofits LegalEthics
Committee.
Afterretiring fromCovington&Burling,hewas
nominatedto, andaccepted by,the United
Nations(UN)GeneralAssemblyto serveas
ajudge on the UnitedNations Administrative
Tribunal1987-1995.Forseveral years,he
servedasPresidentofthatTribunal.In 1999 he
wasappointedChairman of aUNgroupwhich
wastaskedwithreviewingthe functioning of
the International WarCrimesTribunals for both
YugoslaviaandRwanda.Alsoattherequestof
the UN,in2006 he conducted an investigation
of aformerUN Inspector General. He traveled
to AmericanSamoa in his role as Chairman
ofaU.S.DepartmentofLaborSpecialIndustry
Committee,taskedwith reviewing aminimum
wageforthatterritory.
In keepingwithhis stronginterest in arbitra-
tion,he servedas an arbitrator bothfor the
American Arbitration Associationand for the
UN.For atime he volunteered as amediator
for the U.S. DistrictCourtin Washington,DC.
In additionto an endless passionfor his work,
Jerry treasured the summers he spentin Maine
as well as visits with his belovedsisterLilyan.

shotdownby asurface-to-air missileover
Kuwait.He and the pilotsustainedinjuries
duringejection fromtheirplaneand were
capturedby Iraqi forces.During47days in
captivitytheyweretortured both physically
andemotionallytorture.Atage of 46, Hunter
wasthe oldestPOW during OperationDesert
Storm. He retired as aChief Warrant Officer5.
His militaryawards include the Prisonerof War
Medal,PurpleHeartMedal,MeritoriousService
Medal, Air Medal, VietnamServiceMedal,
