• Heresy is a thinking or opinion contrary to the established canon within a system of belief. It is an interpretation of
the doxa that conflicts with the conventional decrees of that belief. The Latin American theology of liberation, which
has been regarded as heretic by the Vatican, reads the Bible from the perspective of poverty and the struggle for social
change, using faith as a tool to liberate the oppressed.
