Since the introductionof iOS 9, the
default toggle switch enabling‘Wi-Fi-

switchedoff on many iPhones.This

data allowances, generating lots of extra
money for participating mobilenetworks.
It’s no secret that Applehas a very
cosy relationshipwith many of these
companies.Just look at the amountof
joint mediaadvertising
that appearswhena new
iPhoneis released.No
wonderthe cost of
owning Apple’s products
has passed the £1,000
markrecently. Could it be
that thesecompanieshave so much
influence with Applethat to increase
profits they can insist on theirown
settings? Once again,it appearsthat
regulators have just let this happen.
As a footnote, pleasetell Barrythat the
word ‘gotten’ doesn’texist in the English
vocabulary, and as a UK-based
professionaljournalist he shouldknow
better. Americanslangwords may be
acceptablein somepartsof the globe,
but not here!

I would like to let you know aboutmy
new website, Money-Go-Round
(moneygoround.info). It’s an online
budgetingapp that lets you enter details
of your income and outgoings,and
outputsa runningtotal, with a savings
calculator and cash-flow forecasts.
The runningtotal report also works out
a piggybanktotal, the amountyou need
to put asideto pay for expensesand
your disposableincome. The savings
calculator was bornout of a habitof
puttingany money left over at the end of
the monthinto a
savingsaccount. The
report calculates
how muchyou could
potentiallysave.
I coded Money-
Go-Roundmyself
usingopen-source
software. The presentation could be
better (somethingfor the future), but it’s
functionaland free, with no adverts. The
site is currentlyat the alphastage and
availablefor user testing and feedback.

so I rooted it, installedLineageOS

and now it’s faster than ever. I also

replaced the battery, so I have a

speedytabletthat’s as goodas new.

(a Lenovo device). I’ve discovered

from readingWeb Userthat there are

lots of uses for an old tablet,suchas a

second PC monitor, a photo display

and even a securitycamera.

in what it can do, but it still plays

on it. Maybe it’s time for a change.
