Monitoring
Monitoring is categorized as the viewing and analyzing of video from the sur-
veillance cameras and, if warranted, taking other security actions based on the
analysis. Traditionally this has been accomplished in a security control room
with banks of monitors and security personnel. The viewing can be live video
feed or archived recorded video. CRT technologies, which have traditionally
been used in these control room environments, are being replaced with LCD
and plasma monitors (Fig. 7.4).
More importantly, the digital transformation in video surveillance has
provided a variety of ways for monitoring to take place. Authorized users with
an Internet connection and a desktop, laptop or PDA can access the video
