Overview
Facility lighting is needed to provide visibility for building occupants, aesthetic
atmosphere for spaces or rooms and for life safety. It is estimated that lighting
accounts for 30 to 40% of electricity usage and costs in a typical building.
Therefore, unneeded and uncontrolled lighting in a building not only wastes
energy but also increases facility operational costs.
In addition, lighting can affect other building technology systems such as
the need for and costs of cooling spaces where lighting has increased space
