Note that Hall’s equation is really applicable for spillways with a
ratiob/y 0 5, where the wall-generated turbulence tends to produce more
intensive aeration than in wide(r) channels (in this case b/y 0 7.7). In
summary: not all of equations (4.41)–(4.54) are strictly applicable in this
case; the range of yaandCcomputed for y 0 0.259 m is
0.32ya(m)0.55, 19C(%)53.
The most likely value is ya0.40 m, C35%. Adding freeboard for safety,
the side walls of the chute should be about 0.7 m high.
