Part II: Building Intelligence into Your Parts
- Open a new part document with inch units.
- Draw a pyramid with the base centered on the origin, as shown in Figure 6.25. Do
not use dimensions, but use sketch relations and construction geometry to enable it to
change symmetrically.
FIGURE 6.25
Build a pyramid without dimensions
- Draw three circles to the right of the pyramid. The bottom circle should be tangent
to the bottom and the angled side of the pyramid. The middle and top circles should be
tangent to the lower circle and the angled side of the pyramid, respectively. Figure 6.26
shows this process partially completed.
- Put a diameter dimension on each circle. In the PropertyManager for each dimension,
rename the dimension for ring1dia@Sketch1, ring2dia, and so on. This is shown in
Figure 6.27.
- Place a dimension from the center of the bottom circle to the construction line, and
place the dimension on the far side of the construction line from the circle. This
creates a diameter dimension.
- Place a dimension for the middle circle in the same way as the bottom circle, but
this time, make the dimension value about 75 percent of the first diameter.
