My dear Reich,

January 18, 1942

Thanks for your long letter of Nov. 3rd. I am late in replying
because I went to Scotland for a few weeks. *

I am delighted at the idea of your work appearing in English. I shall

help all I can on this side to get a publisher. One great difficulty is that

all publishers seem to have Freudian readers to decide about publica
tion, and then there is the shortage of paper. I think that any new
publication needs a government license. Any issue on this side would
have to be financially independent of U.S.A. No profit could be sent to
you, but as there won't be one and as you don't think of that side, that
will be O.K. Send me as many copies [of the book, The Function of the
Orgasm, published in the United States] as you can spare and I shall
try to get them distributed among the people who matter. I long for the
day when I can help to introduce you to England.
We shan't argue about old Joe Stalin. New things are moving and all
will be changed. All I meant was that the British public at the moment
would not take kindly to anything printed that lumped Stalin with the
other two as dictators. The enthusiasm for Russia here is tremendous
at present.
How will you stand as an al ien now that the U.S.A. is in the war?

I hope you can continue your cancer research work, for that is more

important than war work that any doctor could do.
