Make it FABRIC FOOTSTOOLFHOW TOBring both comfortand style to yourliving room withour simple fabricfootstool project, inspiredby Victoria’s cosy look. With no sewing required, this upholstery tutorial iseasy to follow and can bedone in just two hours. This simple project canbe adapted to reupholstera brand-new footstool(ours came from Dunelm).Alternatively, you can usethe same technique toupdate an existing stool inyour home that’s starting tolook a bit tired, or if you’vefound one second-hand ata charity shop or boot sale.1Measure your footstooland carefully cut out apiece of fabric that’s largeenough to cover the topand all four sides – allow for anextra 2cm on each side for thehem. Lay the fabric face downon a flat surface and place thefootstool upside down on top,so that it’s sitting directly in thecentre of the fabric.2Starting on one ofthe longer sides of thefootstool, carefully folda hem along the edgeof the fabric and neatly pin it tothe underside of the footstool.Fix in place using a staple gunand then start work on theopposite side, making sure youpull the fabric taut as you pin, then staple in place.3At each end of thefootstool, cut a smallsemi-circle of excessfabric off each cornerto reduce the bulk of fabric andallow the fold to be neat. Foldand pin the remaining fabricinto place to the undersideof the footstool, then staple inplace. Repeat at the other endto complete the footstool.Transform a plain footstool with a pretty patterned fabric to createa charming focal point and add an extra seat in your living roomMake Victoria’sUPHOLSTEREDFOOTSTOOLIF YOU’LL BE USING THE STOOL AS A SPARESEAT WHEN^IF OUUGUESTS VISIT, TRY ADDING A LAYER OF WADDING BENEATHTHE FABRIC TO GIVE A PLUMPER FINISHSmall footstool (we gotours in Dunelm, £20)Measuring tapeFabric scissors1/2m Bosworth fabricin Chambray, £16.99 perm, Prestigious TextilesFabric pinsStaple gun321DOIT IN2hrsTAK E S 2HRS COST £36.99``````PROJECT``````SUZIE ATTAWAY``````STYLING``````CASSIE PRYCE``````PHOTOGRAPHS``````DAVID GILES``````Elephant cushion,£15; plain linencushion, £20,both John Lewis.Gaser rug, £80,Ikea.
