When my husband Matthewand I bought this house,we knew that weâd buildan extension eventuallybecause the kitchenand bathroom were tiny,â says Clare. âAfterfour years, we finally started the work.To make the most of the space upstairs,we decided to rearrange the layout, andthis included moving the bathroom. Therewas a box room with an airing cupboardnext to it and by combining the two, weâdbe able to create a large bathroom withspace for a shower and a separate bath.As the space was a blank canvas, wewere able to plan the design exactly theway we wanted. The alcove behind thedoor was the obvious place for a walk-inshower as it wouldnât encroach on the restof the room. I also wanted the roll-top bathto be a focal point beneath the window,and everything else just fell into position.``````All in the detailFrom the start, I had a clear idea of the lookI wanted â a luxurious hotel-style bathroomwith a homely feel. The colour scheme wasinspired by a visit to Topps Tiles, wherewe fell in love with a marble design. Thevariation in each tile was beautiful, rangingthrough all shades of grey to beige andhints of pink that gave a rich, warm hue.We also like the timeless look of marbleand it was more affordable than I imagined.Iâm quite confident when making colourchoices and used the marble tones as abase. We chose a soft grey for the walls,which complemented the stone showertiles, and timber-style flooring for a naturalfeel, which is warmed by underfloor heating.When it came to the fittings, I spenthours searching online and discovered thatthe price range for similar-looking bathswas quite varied.
