   You might have known that a bird can have feathers of different colors, but did you know that all
   birds have different feathers with different purposes? All birds need three kinds of feathers: body
   feathers, tail feathers, and flight feathers. Colorful body feathers insulate the bird’s body and also serve
   as distinctive markings. Tail feathers are important for steering in flying. They also help the bird keep its
   balance on the ground. Flight feathers are, of course, used for flight. The side of the feather toward the
   wing is usually narrower. The broader side bends easily to let air move through the wing.
