Princeton 1

5 Mediterra Restaurant
& Taverna Mediterranean $$
(%609-252-9680; 29 Hulfish St; mains $15-30;
h11:30am-10pm, to 11pm Fri & Sat) Centrally
located in Palmer Square, Mediterra is the sort
of upscale, contemporary place designed for a
college town, for visiting parents, flush students
and locals craving menus that highlight locally
sourced and organic ingredients. It’s worth
leaning towards the fish and small plates like
bruschetta.

5 Olives Bakery/Deli^ $
(22 Witherspoon St; sandwiches $7; h7am-
8pm) Visit Olives for reasonably priced,
healthy Mediterranean-style food with a Greek
emphasis – it’s like Whole Foods’ deli section
only with better selection and quality. There’s
very limited counter space so aim for take-out,
especially at lunch time when it’s crowded.

4 Nassau Inn Inn^ $$
(%609-921-7500; http://www.nassauinn.com; 10
Palmer Sq; r incl breakfast from $169; aW#)
A Princeton favorite, evoking 18th-century
elegance with 21st-century comforts.
Downstairs is the Yankee Doodle Tap Room
where professors, students and out-of-towners
gather for local brews and hearty meals.

New Hope 3

5 Marsha Brown
Creole Kitchen and Lounge Southern $$
(%215-862-7044; 15 S Main St; mains $15-30;
h11:30am-10pm Mon-Thu, to 11pm Fri & Sat,
to 9pm Sun) For a divine meal in a renovated
former church, this unique New Hope creation is
inspired by the Louisiana cooking and Southern
roots of its owner. Catfish, steaks and lobster
are served in the gorgeous light-filled dining
room.

4 Black Bass Hotel Inn^ $$$
(%215-297-9260; http://www.blackbasshotel.com;
3774 River Rd, Lumberville; r wkdays/wkends

from $195/225; aW) Originally a small tavern
popular with Tory loyalists – that’s right, 1740s
Tories – this elegant and comfortable inn is
steeped in history. Extensively renovated in
2009 after falling on hard times, the antique
furnishings, memorabilia and artwork were
restored and mixed with contemporary
amenities. Only 6 miles north of New Hope,
most of the rooms have views of the Delaware
Canal and River which runs behind the property.

4 Porches on the Towpath B&B $$
(%215-862-3277; http://www.porchesnewhope.
com; 20 Fisher’s Alley; r from wkdays/wkends
$115/155) Romantic and quirky, this cozy
Victoriana with porches and canal views doesn’t
take itself too seriously (just like the inn’s
affable owner). It’s a relatively secluded spot
off the main drag with six uniquely designed
rooms in the main house and another six in an
atmospheric 19th-century carriage house.

Lambertville 3

5 DeAnna’s Mediterranean^ $$
(%609-397-8957; 54 N Franklin St; mains
$18-25; h5-9:30pm Tue-Thu, to 10pm Fri & Sat)
This long-running owner/chef driven place with
an eclectic menu and romantic vibe serves up
homemade pasta and simple but delicious meat
and fish dishes. Reservations recommended.

Easton 4

from the center of town, this sophisticated
Tuscan trattoria has a large selection of pastas
and thin-crusted pizzas as well as skilfully
prepared fish and meat dishes. The dining room
can get loud when groups are in; the best seats
are at one of the few sidewalk tables.

4 Lafayette Inn Inn^ $$
