Lots of people haven’t developed the muscle control to arch a
single eyebrow, and my experience is that few people can arch
both brows separately. One of the few exceptions is our model in
this section, Kurtis Kelly. I think it’s a matter of practice, but then
again, I’ve observed a correlation between handedness and which
eyebrow a person typically raises. Incidentally, Kurtis appears to
be ambidextrous in many things.
Try it: raise one eyebrow. Is it your left? Then I’ll bet you’re
right handed.

You can send a very clear message with a pair of glasses.
Raise your brow and look over your glasses. If you’re 16, it’s funny.
If you’re 46, it’s con-
descending and pushy.
It’s an authoritarian look.
Looking across the
bridge of your nose, even
without the glasses,
delivers the same effect.
If your face is structured
correctly, it is a very
predatory look; at any
rate, the look is one of
condemnation.
