son, ARPA funds are frustrating.
They took the money from Social
Security, and it belongs to the
people who live here....
Knight, Thornapple Ambulance
Contract, attached. $4500 per
year for ambulance coverage for
the area that is presently covered
by Birch. Birch would continue
with the fire coverage; however,
the ambulance would be cov-
ered by Thornapple. Knight, so
we would have Thornapple and
Freeport as ambulance support.
Buehler, “do you lose response
time for the residents in that cor-
ner?” Eaton, “yes. It may take two
or three minutes more.” Knight,
”We did not look at the time dis-
tance. We thought about it, but
we did not do a study.” Buehler,
the folks who work for Mercy and
Thornapple all hold the same cer-
tifications correct? Eaton, “Yes”
Knight, “Mercy Ambulance
want to change their contract
dates to start on January, and not
June. The Hastings City manager
was at last Birch meeting and rec-
ommended this change. In addi-
tion, Mercy is looking to purchase
new equipment and need to
know their signed commitments.”
Smelker, “there would be zero
cost?” Knight, “correct.” Cross,
“so how many people contacted
you?” Knight, “a handful of peo-
ple expressed concerns...”
Bass, Motion to accept the
ambulance contract from Thor-
napple for a cost of $4500.00 a
year. Roll call vote “Yes” Knight,
Buehler, Bass, Cross. “No” Olson.
Knight, start with a year con-
tract and see how it goes.
Records room update: Knight
talked to JD Forbes regarding
fireproof steel doors. His quote:
(2) two steel fireproof doors,
locks, hinges, seal and installed
for $2050. We received a bid, Eric
Mahler Remodeling, $12,480.
Mahler’s bid provided a complete
solution for a fireproof room, in-
cluding, blocking of two exterior
windows, block one interior door-
way, one (1) fireproof door, paint-
ing walls and epoxy floor treat-
ment. Board discussed bids and
tabled a decision to next month’s
meeting, January 18
Olson regarding mold in the
basement. Olson and Lorraine
Bush have cleaned basement
area; There is evidence of mold
from past water problems in the
basement.
Wood School and Eckert Road
Intersection. Even with road
strips, flags and signage, people
are running that Stop Sign. There
was another close call. Barry
County Road Commission has
made the decision to move for-
ward with a FOUR-WAY-STOP.
Land behind township hall dis-
cussed. $15,000 proposed by
seller. Buehler to follow-up to get
a square acre to match existing
property line.
Board discussed property at
the corner of Grange and Sis-
son and possible trade with an-
other piece of property north of
township hall building. Knight to
investigate and determine feasi-
bility.
Board discussed property at
Irving cemetery and the need to
secure property for future cem-

Second half starts
better for Scots as
they knock off
Hamilton
Brett Bremer
Sports Editor
A clear area for improve-
ment emerged as the Fighting
Scots looked at the data over
the holiday break.
They knew things had been
rough to start the second half
of ballgames through their
first four contests, and the
time away from competition
gave them a chance to look at
all the reasons why.
Caledonia’s varsity girls’
basketball team found some
answers and went on a 19-
run in the third quarter against
non-conference foe Hamilton
Tuesday and went on to a
48-33 win over the Hawkeyes
to move its record to 3-
overall this season heading
into the start of OK Red
Conference play last night
against Rockford.
