Let God Talk to You: When You Hear Him, You Will Never Be the Same

getting back to my writing.
Apparently, this was not the right order for my day, because
I repeatedly struggled to get my thoughts organized for this
chapter. I knew what I wanted to say. I had gathered plenty of
ideas and inspiring quotes to add sage advice, yet no matter
how hard I tried, words just wouldn’t flow.

Then, I asked, “Lord, what’s wrong?” The thought followed,
“You and I haven’t had our alone time together yet today. You
started your work on this chapter before WE even talked!”

This thought passed through my mind a few more times until
I set aside all of my books and my computer and listened to
God talk to me.

I began by opening up to today’s reading in Oswald
Chambers’ daily devotional My Utmost for His Highest. I
shouldn’t have been surprised to read (though I did gasp): “If
you cannot express yourself on any subject, struggle until you
can. If you do not, someone will be all the poorer all the days of
his life. Struggle to re-express some truth of God to yourself,
and God will use that expression to someone else.... Try to
state to yourself what you feel implicitly to be God’s truth and
give God a chance to pass it on to someone else through
you.” 1

I share this with you as an example of how obvious God is
when He talks to me. He is NOT elusive. He is SO present. He
is ALWAYS ready to talk to me with words that encourage,
press in, invite, and direct me.
In my rush to convince you that God talks, I neglected to
address the all-too-common excuses that hinder us from
hearing God talk.
