Our mutual tears released just a little of her pain, and she
began to laugh. In fact, almost as quickly as we had burst into
tears, we burst into laughter. I commented, “Wow! That was
quite an unexpected encounter with God and each other, eh?”
God talks to you through whatever means available. He
might send a gentle breeze to touch your face or a piercing ray
of sunlight to peek through a dark and cloudy sky to catch
your glance. God speaks through moments of stillness or
someone else’s spoken words. He will make himself known to
you through tears or laughter, great sadness, and deep
satisfaction.
As you develop the disciplines of hearing God talk, make
every effort to engage all of your senses. God wants you to
feel Him as much as hear Him—to get goose bumps and
tingling sensations when you hear His voice, to shudder at the
sounds and sights of nature, and to gasp in awe of His power,
artistry, and intervention.
