God says when He talks. As you develop a daily format for
your own “God Talks,” consider incorporating the following
ideas I have found to be both practical and helpful for
capturing God’s thoughts and words to me on a daily basis.
Consciously move from talking to God to listening to Him by
writing down key insights you receive in a designated
Listening section of your notebook or journal. These thoughts
will often sound parental and loving. Most often, you will hear
Scripture— ones that you’ve memorized or recently heard or
read during this time. Write them down. This is one way to let
God talk to you. Allow this record to serve as additional
confirmation and encouragement of the other thoughts and
impressions God has been giving you during the previous hour
or day.
Messages
The next tab in My Partner Prayer Notebook is titled
Messages. God regularly wants to talk to you and me through
the Messages given during church sermons and Bible studies,
or while reading from daily devotional books. As you
emotionally or spiritually connect with a specific verse or point,
extract the nuggets and record them in an assigned Message
section of your notebook or journal, so you’ll be able to
retrieve them when you need them. I actually take my notebook
to church each week and take notes during the sermon. By
making an outline, recording verses used during the sermon,
and even noting choruses that struck a chord with me, I begin
to sense the way God is personalizing each message for me.
