Next, I continue letting God talk to me through my daily Bible
reading—which always includes passages from the New and
Old Testaments, Psalms, and Proverbs. I strongly encourage
you to yearly read through a Bible that is divided into 365 daily
readings, such as the Change Your Life Daily Bible. 15 Its
organization will not only allow you to hear God’s voice on a
day-to-day basis, but it will give you a more complete
perspective of who God is and how He communicates to men
and women.
Read the Word of God as if God is talking to you—teaching,
correcting, directing, or motivating you—whether you are
observing the lives of others or sensing His immediate
direction in your life. Each day as you study the Word, there is
the potential for fresh inspiration, innovative ideas, reminders
of a prior commitment you made to God or someone else,
conviction of something you should not allow in your life, or
encouragement to hold on just a little longer. Like a daily
conversation with someone you love, the topics are varied and
the action steps are always there for the taking.
I’m convinced that the better you know what the Bible says
— not what others have told you it says or what you think it
says— the more often and easily you’ll recognize God’s voice
when He talks to you.
