to express His undying love toward you. Psalm 139:16 says,
“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was
recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a
single day had passed” (NLT).
God will do whatever it takes to get your attention so that
you’ll know-like-you-know that He indeed is talking to you.
God Talks to You With Words of Conviction
When God “calls you out,” you can’t help but come forward.
During my travels to twenty-three college campuses over
forty days in 2006, I began to realize that many young men—
especially those in leadership—were heavily involved in
pornography. This was not a hunch. This was what they were
telling me.
After about fifteen campus visits, I felt as if I had uncovered
something sinister. I honestly thought, “Can I be the only one
hearing these confessions of addiction to pornography by men
in worship bands or on ministry teams or on leadership
councils? What is going on?”
So in a random, unplanned moment in the middle of my talk
to over one thousand collegians on a large northwestern
university campus, I blurted out, “Frankly, I think there is a
spirit of pornography over the young men of this generation.”
That was a loaded statement for a number of reasons! First
of all, it sounds a little melodramatic. Second, it’s accusatory.
Third, it’s controversial in a coed crowd. And finally, it’s rarely
a subject that is openly discussed.
But the words just tumbled out of my mouth.
