- The electoral triumph of Donald Trump in November 2016 might be the
first sign that voters are going to punish leaders who lie for Islam. One of
the few planks of Trumpʼs programme that the media emphasized was the
idea of banning Muslims from entering the US:
half of all Americans supported Donald Trumpʼs unconstitutional
proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States.
Support for the ban ticked upward after the shooting at an Orlando
nightclub in June in which the shooter claimed allegiance to the Islamic
State. “Donald Trump is bringing anti-Muslim prejudice into the
mainstream”, Washington Post, 1 Aug 2016.
Even though the media fell over themselves to conceal or distort
Trumpʼs policies, it was clear that with other politicians having had no
response to Islamic terrorism other than to go to war in foreign lands, the
idea of “banning Muslims” appealed to a majority of voters and this issue
among others resulted in Trumpʼs win, despite the mediasʼ repeated and
false insinuations that Trump was some kind of Nazi for supporting the
right of gay people not to be exterminated. ↵
