- In France, philosophy teacher Robert Redeker told the truth about Islam,
the truth according to the core Islamic texts. He ended up losing his job
and having to disappear, under police protection. Despite being a member
of the editorial board of the prominent Leftist literary magazine Les
Temps Modernes (whose mission was to write ”engaged” literature),
Redeker received virtually no support from the intellectual elite nor the
French State (see “French philosophy teacher in hiding after attack on
I s l a m ” , The Guardian, 4 October 2006,
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2006/oct/04/france.schoolsworldwide).
In an opinion piece in the prominent mainstream newspaper Le Figaro (in
response to the attacks on Pope Benedict for quoting a medieval
Byzantine Emperorʼs view on Islam), Redeker contrasted Jesus and
Mohammed and said that the latter was “a merciless warlord, a looter, a
mass-murderer of Jews and a polygamist” (all thing substantiated by the
most authoritative Muslim biography of Mohammed). Redeker also said
the Koran was “a book of incredible violence” (“Teacher in Hiding After
Attack on Islam Stirs Threats”, New York Times, 30 Sept 2006
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/30/world/europe/teacher-in-hiding-
after-attack-on-islam-stirs-threats.html). In an article entitled “Has the
West been silenced by Islam?” (3 Oct 2006,
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/has-the-west-been-
silenced-by-islam-5330785.html) The Independent made a show of
appearing to support the right to free speech, provided that what was said
should not offend anyone. This article proved that, with one or two
exceptions in the subsequent decades, those with any position sanctioned
by the institutions of the West, have indeed been silenced - not just from
criticising Islam but from even being able to say (as Kuffar) what it is that
the texts of Islam demand from believers (if any Kuffar critic of Islam
was to convert to Islam, suddenly he would be able to say what the texts
of Islam said without fearing assassination by Muslims). The irony of
such a cowardly defence of free speech appearing in a newspaper
proclaiming itself “The Independent” is rich beyond words. See also
