Mohammed's Koran: Why Muslims Kill For Islam

scholars of Islam. Bellʼs book first appeared in 1953, then
was re-published by Professor Watt in 1970. The Table of
Surahs at the end of that book shows the Koran in its
traditional order and contrasts this order with the order in
four other scholarly Korans (where the surahs are put in
chronological order). In all four of these scholarly Korans,
Chapter 9 (containing “The Verse of the Sword”) is dated as
either the last Chapter from Mohammed, or the next to last
Chapter from Mohammed. This substantiates the chronology
found on the Islamic websites listed above. We believe that
our presentation (reverse chronological order) is the one
which will most easily make sense of the Koran for the
ordinary reader.
