14 Derrida’s close links with L’Humanité lasted for the whole of the fol-
lowing decade. In particular, Derrida published in it a very fi ne text,
‘Mes “humanités” du dimanche’, expressing his best wishes for the
new version of the daily paper (L’Humanité, 4 March 1999). Like most
of his interventions in this period, the article was reprinted in Paper
Machine (‘My Sunday “humanities” ’, pp. 100–8).

‘Points’, 2009), pp. 244–8.
20 This polemic became a fully fl edged ‘aff air’ after the publication of
an open letter from Maurice Blanchot to Bruno Roy in La Quinzaine
littéraire no. 703, 1–15 November 1996, p. 5. For further details, see
Bident, Maurice Blanchot, p. 573. In July 1995, at the conference in
Louvain-la-Neuve, ‘Passions of Literature’, Derrida discussed The
Instant of My Death, quoting the entire text within his own paper.
Blanchot thanked him warmly for this when Derrida published his
book Athens, Still Remains: ‘How grateful I am to you for saving, with
your peerless commentary, my last book from the hateful publisher
whom I have left and condemned, as you probably know’ (letter from
Blanchot to Derrida, 15 January 1998).

English edition. – Tr.]
