Columns


The principal columns in a structure should have a minimum diameter of 10 in
(255 mm) or, for rectangular columns, a minimum thickness of 8 in (203 mm) and
a minimum grosscross-sectional area of 96 in^2 (61,935 mm^2 ).
Short columns with closely spacedspiral reinforcing enclosing a circular
concrete core reinforced with vertical bars have a maximum allowable load of

The center-to-center spacing of the spirals should not exceed one-sixth of the
core diameter. The clear spacing between spirals should not exceed one-sixth
