I’d also prefer that you avoid artificial sugar entirely, if you can—remember,
this plan is about real, whole foods, and those yellow, pink, blue, and green
packets shouldn’t be an exception, nor should the added artificial sweeteners
found in many store-bought foods and drinks. (Some experts even think that
artificial sweeteners may cause changes in your microbiome that make you less
sensitive to sweetness so you need more to feel satisfied. Boom—weight gain.)
As for beverages, stick to the basics, please: water, coffee, and tea. When it
comes to add-ins, just trust your common sense. A splash of milk in your coffee
is fine; flavoured syrups are not. Sparkling water with a squeeze of citrus: Oz-
approved. Fizzy drinks, diet or regular: Nope. And same goes for sugary juices,
like orange or apple juice.
