ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT


What’s the one food I hear over and over as something that people “just
can’t give up”? Has to be pizza. After all, it’s become our symbol for
convenience, it’s easy to order for a gathering, and—not gonna argue—
tasty. (As a whole, America eats somewhere in the neighbourhood of 350
slices per second.) There’s just something about the sauce, crust, and
cheese combo . . . While the tomato sauce certainly has health benefits,
many kinds of crust and an overload of cheese (not to mention the heaps of
processed meats that might top things off) don’t exactly make pizza a high-
priority health food.
That said, I do love the idea of families making pizza together—
everyone hanging out in the kitchen and customizing personal pies. And
it’s sweet when couples have a traditional Friday-night wine-and-pizza
meal. The connections that happen over those pies far outweigh the
negative effects. I also think there’s a happy medium—a way to enjoy a
slice more often, without sacrificing taste:
