stealth strategy.
Pre-prepped meals make good eating deliciously decision-free.
The Blue Zoners look to the wisdom of their ancestors for guidance about
what belongs on their tables. They drink wine, but they don’t imbibe with the
goal of getting a buzz or forgetting about stresses. They figured out a long time
ago that tomatoes and olive oil worked pretty well together in a sauce—it was
simple and tasty—and they didn’t find a need to overprocess it. (By the way, it
turns out that heating the tomatoes in oil is the best way to absorb the valuable
antioxidant lycopene they contain. This was an anti-ageing trick before there was
even a thing called anti ageing.) They dotted their soups and pastas with meats,
but felt no need to inhale kilos of beef at each sitting. And they carried those
ways of life from one generation to the next without giving any thought to
changing what was already working.
These people eat what is considered to be the classic Mediterranean diet and
it’s helped them live a very long time.
