IN DEFENCE OF HONEY
Honey is one of the rare foods that does not spoil (some uncovered by
archaeologists in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs was found to still be
edible). To produce 450 grams of the golden stuff, bees must visit two
million flowers. In some parts of the world, it’s still used to treat wounds,
because it won’t hurt your cells, but will kill invading bacteria. Our family
has three hives that make about 30 kilograms of honey a year, and I have
trouble giving it all away! In place of added sugar, a drizzle of honey can
deliver sweetness with some health benefits, such as:
