New Perspectives on Contemporary Chinese Poetry

(Chris Devlin) #1
Foreword xv

Light is the poet’s lyric, and this is why we sing. Some of us cling to
the singing and do not hope for release, while others cannot bear the
sound and so hope for a sweeter silence in words that are tempered in
nature’s harmony. Whatever our course, there is always the moon and
its dance, where the song is played in a blues kind of rendering of the
lyric.
The moon and its dance live in a place where egos dare not go.
