was born in Alabama to EdwardKearney and

Dr.Kearney wasacareer employee at the
Central Intelligence Agency,working in various
roles at the agency.She also served on the
faculties of The Pennsylvania State University,
The University of Maryland (European Division),
Tulane University,and The Johns Hopkins Uni-
versity.She receivedaB.S.degree in Psychol-
ogy,M.S.degree in Clinical Psychology,and
aPh.D.degree in Social Psychology from The
Pennsylvania State University.
Dr.Kearney was an avid golfer,runner,tennis
player,and dancer.Ablack belt in Shotokan
Karate,she taught martial arts for theFairfax
CountyPark Authority after she retired from
the Central Intelligence Agency.
She is survived by her husband, Sheng Yiu Ho;
and their five children, Lee-Hwei Ho,Ruby Lee-
Zu Ho,Lee-Kwei Ho Gumagay,Alan Tson-Lun
Ho,and Lee-Min Ho.

and continuing her career on the Pediatric

Health and Suburban Hospital where she
worked for many years.Amajor accom-
plishment of Helen Ann’scareer was being
actively involved in the creation of the first
Trauma Center at Suburban before retiring in
1988.
Helen Ann and Edward loved the study of
genealogy and spent many hours of their
retirement researching the history and dece-
dents of the family.Helen Ann loved playing
the piano and taught many of her children
and grandchildren. Helen Ann enjoyed trav-
eling, making several trips to Ireland, Europe,
and Florida with her husband Edward.
Edward and Helen Ann were faithful member
of St.Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic
Church for over 58 years.
Edward and Helen Ann Hanner are survived
by her beloved sister,Sister Rita Mary Mayan
IHM; brother,Anthony,and his wifeTeresa
Mayan; three sons,Edward A. and wife Ellen,

Hanner;and two sisters,Mary Owens and
Evelyn Leonard.
Edward wasamember of the Army’s82nd
and 101st Airborne Divisions that served in
Germany.Edward wasaretired member of
the District of Colombia Fire Department
and hadasecond career in the MD OSHA
office at the University of Maryland until
his retirement in 1989. Edward was an avid
outdoorsman hunting yearly with his brother
Vic,three sons,nephews David and Joey,and
many friends.Edward loved canoeing on the
Potomac River,teaching and sharing his love
of nature with all his family.Edward loved
travel, making numerous trips to Europe,

Mike was born inWashington, DC.Hebegan
his career with the Department of Agriculture
as aForestry Aid in the Kaniksu National
Forest in Idaho and then moved to theU.S.
Geological Service until he assumedaposition
with the NationalPark Service in 1961. He
retired in 1994. Mike made positive and lasting
contributions to almost every major park-relat-
ed measure enacted into law over the past
several decades.
The Redwood NationalPark and Redwood
Park Expansion Acts; the NationalPark and
Recreation Act of 1978: the OmnibusPark and
Recreation Act of 1979; the Alaska National
Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA); and
countless additions to the National Wilderness,
Wild and Scenic Rivers andTrail Systems are
afew of the laws that have the imprint of his
work.
Mike was recognized for his contributions
in the field of legislation and congressional
affairs.Inevery year since 1985, Mike received
PerformanceAwards.Three times he received
Special AchievementAwards capped by the
Award of the Department of the Interior Cita-
tion for Meritorious Service in 1989. His name
had become synonymous with NationalPark
Service legislation. Such was Mike's knowl-
edge of the NationalPark Service that it was
said that Mike had forgotten more National
Park Service law than most people ever

Robert Maloney died peacefully on Thursday,
December 30, 2021 in Winston-Salem, NC.
He was born on March 1, 1947 inWashington,
DC intoafamily with roots in Capitol Hill and
Georgetown dating back to the late 1840’s. He
grew up in Chevy Chase,MDand attended
Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and St.
John’sHigh School. He graduated from Duke
University in 1969.
Robert hadalifelong interest in antiques,
particularly antique illustrated children’s
books.Heopenedashop in Georgetown in the
early 1980’stosell part of his book collection.
He donated some of the remainder of his
collection to North Carolina universities during
the last years of his life.
Robert loved travel, Duke basketball, collecting
rare wines,gourmet meals and annual Bethany
Beach, DE family reunions.Hewas alifelong
expert chess player who shared his love for the
game with family and friends.Healso had a
fascination with, and collected, unusual rocks.
He is survived by his two children: Catie
Donadio (Benedict) of Winston-Salem and Wil-
son Maloney of Greensboro,NC. He is also
survived by two grandchildren, Lilly and Liam,
who were the joy of his last years.

the Student Council, participated in cheering
tournaments,music festivals,prom, dance
and majorette float committees,the class
will, science fair,and the Christmas and
Spring variety shows,and served one year
as President of the majorettes.During the
Summers she worked at Graves’ Diner in
Whately and sewed tobacco for Zagrodnik’s
Tobacco Company in Hatfield. After gradua-
tion, she attended Fisher College in Boston
and took several courses from Cochise and
Methodist colleges in Arizona and North
Carolina, respectively.
After graduating from Fisher College,she
moved to Virginia for employment with the
Central Intelligence Agency for 36 years.In
the interim she worked asaCareerAware-
ness Coordinator at Reilly Road Elementary
School in North Carolina and as an Adminis-
trative Assistant for The National Limestone
Institute inFairfax, Virginia. After retirement
from the CIA she worked as an Independent
Contractor for the federal government for
another 10 years.

multiple sclerosis later in life which negatively

especially her beloved kitty.Liz touched many
people’slives wherever she was,and will
be fondly remembered by her family and
friends for her empathy,her example,and her
perseverance through adversity.

Jackie wasalong-time parishioner of Annun-
ciation Catholic Church inWashington, DC,
where she was an active volunteer,partici-
pating for many years in the church’sRite
of Christian Initiation for Adults.She was an
active member ofThe John Carroll Society,an
organization for Catholic lay people serving
the Archbishop ofWashington; she frequent-
ly sat on the Society’sRed Mass Committee.
Devoted to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton,Jackie
proudly worked to advance her canonization.
Jackie was also invested asaDame of Malta,
an order dedicated to relieving the misery
of the poor and sick regardless ofrace or
religion in recognition of the dignity given to
them by God.
Jackie’slove of travel took her to Hawaii,
Mexico,all of Europe,Australia, New
Zealand, and Fiji. As an avid reader,she
especially enjoyed biographies.
She is survived by her goddaughter Barbara
Shields and devoted and grateful friends who
will miss her pleasant and loving demeanor,
and forever hold her close in their hearts.
Afuneral mass will be held onJanuary 22 at
11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church
in Lake Ridge,VA. Interment will follow at
National MemorialPark in Falls Church,VA.

Jacqueline AnnWakeling, 91, went home to
the Lord onJanuary 5, 2022. Born inPassaic,
NJ on July 25, 1930, she grew up in Queens,
NY,the only child of John and HelenWakeling.
Jackie graduated from Hood College inFred-
erick, MD in 1952. She then brought her
considerable communication, managerial,
intellectual, and people skills to the business
world. After working for Crane&Co. and
Chemical Bank in NewYork City,she moved
to SanFrancisco where she was employed
by Bank of America.Jackie returned east to
take aposition at Comsat,acommunications
satellite corporation formed in 1962 by Con-
gress to spearhead the country’sinterest
in commercial satellite communications.In
1993 she was appointed Executive Director
of the Christ Child Society,Inc., anon-profit

Janet Grace Stevens (nee Theofield), age 87, of
Highland, MD,passed away onFriday,January
14, 2022, surrounded by all3daughters.Born
October 13, 1934 in Myersville,MD, she was
the daughter of the late JohnP. Theofield, Sr.
and Grace A. (Poole) Theofield. She was the
wife of 59 years to Charles Edward Stevens,
who predeceased her in 2015.
Janet wasraised in Silver Spring, MD.She
graduated in 1954 from Montgomery Blair
High School and attended the University of
Maryland, CollegePark where she met her
husband. She retired from Howard County
Public School System in 1987. She had many
talents including gardening, sewing, baking,
and art. She enjoyed traveling and camping in
the U.S. ,but most of all, enjoyed spending time
with her family.She wasatreasured mother
and mom-mom who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law;Janet
Elizabeth Sowers of Marriottsville,Christine
Eve andC. David Thompson of New Windsor,
and AprilLynn and MichaelC. Blaney of
Glenville,PA(formerly of New Windsor); grand-
children, Theo and Amanda Sowers,Jacob
Sowers,Nicholas and Erin Thompson, Hannah
and Matthew Gray,Robert and Lindsey Blaney,
Alex Blaney,and Amanda Blaney and her
fiancé Luke Miltenberger;great-grandchildren,
Henry and Ridgely Sowers,Liam and Everett
Thompson, and Lucy Gray.She is also survived
by three nieces,Hope,Bonnie and Jean and
their mother Mary; and several cousins and
extended family.
She was predeceased by siblings,Alice,John,
Robert, andTruman Theofield,Truman’swife
Sherri and their daughter Dawn; as well as
extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Sunday,
January 23, from1until 5p.m. at Haight
Funeral Home&Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road,
Sykesville whereafuneral service will be held
on Monday,January 24, at 10 a.m. Interment
to follow at Grossnickle Brethren Cemetery,
11301 Meeting House Road, Myersville,MD
