"He went on, 'The Messenger of God (SAAS) left for Medina accompanied
by Aba Bakr. I had wanted to leave with him, but some young Quraysh men
blocked my way. I remained up that night, not lying down, and they commented,
"God has diverted hi from you through his stomach!" But I made no corn-
plaint, and they went to sleep. So I left, but some of them caught up with me
after I had gone some way and wanted to take me hack. I told them, "If I were to
give you some ounces of gold, would you let me go and be fair to me?" They did
so and I followed them back to Mecca. I told them, "Dig beneath the threshold
of the door; that's where the ounces of gold are. And if you go off to a certain
woman, you can take two sets of vestments."
"'So I left and joined the Messenger of God (SAAS) at Qubx' before be
moved out from there. When he saw me he said, "Well, Aba Y&yq you made a
good deal!" I replied, "0 Messenger of God, no one got here to you before me,
so it could only be Gabriel, peace be upon him, who informed you!"'"
Ibn Ishiiq stated, "Hamza b. 'Abd al-MutMb, Zayd b. Haritha, Aba Marthad
Kamm b. al-Huwyn and his son Marthad, both of the Gbanawi tribe, allies of
Hamza; Anasa and Aba Kabsha, freed-men of the Messenger of God (SAAS);
all these stayed with Kultbm b. al-Hadm, brother of the Banii CAmr b. 'Awf, at
Qub2. However, it is also said that they stayed with Sa'd b. Khaythama. It is
stated, moreover, that Hamza stayed with As'ad b. Zum. But God knows
best."
He went on, "Wbayda b. al-Hitrith and his two brothers al-Tufayl and
Huwyn, MisM b. Uthstba, Suwayhif b. Sa'd h. Huraymila, brother of the <Abd
al-Diir, Tulayb b. Wmayr, brother of the Bana 'Abd b. Qu~ayy, Khabbxb, freed-
man of Wtba b. Ghazwan stayed with<Abd All& b. Salama, brother of Bal'ajhn
at Qubii'.
"'Ahd al-Wmn b. 'Awf and some other emigrants stayed with Sa'd h.
al-Rabi'. Al-Zubayr b. 'Awwsm and Aba Sabra b. Abn Ruhm stayed with
Mundhii b. Muhammad b. Wqba b. Ubyha b. al-Jul& at al-Wsba, the home
of the Bana J&j&i. Muv'ab b. Wmayr stayed with Sa'd b. Mu5dh. Aba
Hudhayfa b. Wtba and Sidim, his freed-man, stayed with Salama."
Ibn Ishiiq stated, "Al-Umawi said that (some stayed) with Khubayb b. Isnf,
brother of the Ban3 Haritha. Wtba b. Ghazwm stayed with 'Abbiid b. Bishr b.
Waqqash among the Banii CAbd al-Ashhal. Wthmm b. 'Affm stayed with Aws
b. Thbit b. al-Mundhir, brother of uassa b. Thiibit in the home of the Bana
al-Naijitr."
His account continues, "The unmarried emigrant men stayed with Sa'd b.
Khaythama since he was unmarried. But God knows best about this."
Ya'qab b. Sufym stated, "Ahad b. Aba Bakr b. al-H&th b. Zum b.
