Alsonotethatawetropeisstrongerthana dryone.Thesheet
bendisanexceptiontotheaboverule;asitisextraordinarily
secure, evenwhen madewithropes ofdifferentdiameter.
Bendsshouldonlybeusedasa temporarymeasure;splices
shouldbeusedformorepermanentjoints.Themostimportant

bend,thewaterknot.thegrapevineknot,theHunter'sbend,
theJapanesebend,andthesurgeon'sknotbend.
