Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 Very t ruly I
tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life.^49 Y our
ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread
that c omes down from heaven, whic h anyone may eat and not die. 51 I a m t h e
living bread that c ame down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever.
T his bread is my flesh, whic h I will give for t he life of t he world.”

(^52) Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How c an this man
give us his flesh t o eat ?”
(^53) Jesus said to them, “Very t ruly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of
Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.^54 Whoever eats my flesh and
drinks my blood has et ernal life, and I will raise t hem up at t he last day. 55 F o r my
flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks
my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I
live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of
me. 58 This is the bread that c ame down from heaven. Your anc estors ate manna
and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 He said t his while
teac hing in the synagogue in Capernaum.
Dispute Over Jesus’ Testimony
8 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have t he light of life.”
Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind
9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disc iples asked him,
“Rabbi, who sinned, t h is ma n or his parent s, that he was born blind?”
(^3) “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that
the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the
works of him who sent me. Night is c oming, when no one c an work. 5 While I am in
t he world, I am t he light of t he world.”
(^6) Aft er saying t his, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put
it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he t old him, “wash in t he Pool of Siloam” (t his word
means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
(^8) His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the
same man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some claimed that he was.
Ot hers said, “No, he only looks like him.”
But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”
(^10) “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.
(^11) He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He
told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I c ould see.”
(^12) “Where is this man?” they asked him.
“I don’t know,” he said.
