Wright, architect. The open plan of the Winslow House is accommodated within a
conventional arrangement of parallel loadbearing walls (see Fig 5.23) with lintel beams
spanning the large openings between the principal spaces. The small scale of the build-
ing together with the relatively large areas of vertical structure which are provided have
allowed the open interior to be achieved without the use of an expensive framework
structure. 39
