Marisa Marcelli writes poetry in both Italian and the
Calabrian dialect. Her work has appeared in several Italian
Journals and in the anthology Italian Poets in America
(Gradiva, 1992).
Gaetano Cipolla has translated several authors from the
Sicilian: Giovanni Meli’s The Origins of the World, Don
Chisciotti and Sanciu Panza, and Moral Fables; Vincenzo
Ancona’s Malidittu la lingua /Damned Language; The Poetry of
Nino Martoglio. He is a professor of Italian at St. John’s
University and he is president and Editor of Arba Sicula.
John Du Val has published the translation of Gérald
Herzhaft’s novel Long Blues in A Minor and co-authored
Cuckolds, Clerics and Countrymen, which won a 1983
Choice Outstanding Book Award. He has translated Tales of
Trilussa and Pascarella’s The Discovery of America. He is
the director of the M.F.A. Program in translation at the
University of Arkansas.
Ruth Feldman has translated widely from the Italian. Her
works include Margherita Guidacci’s Liber Fulguralis, A
Book of Sybils and Landscape with Ruins; Primo Levi’s
Moments of Reprieve. She has co-translated Collected Poems
of Lucio Piccolo; Selected Poems of Andrea Zanzotto;
Shema: Collected Poems of Primo Levi; The Hands of the
South: Selected Poetry of Vittorio Bodini; The Dawn is
