RolledTogetherasaScroll

^'F I ^HE heaven departed as a scroll when itis
I rolledtogether; and everymountainand is-
'*" landwere movedout oftheirplaces. And

the kings of theearth, and thegreat men, and the
richmen,andthechiefcaptains,andthemightymen,
andeverybondman,andeveryfreeman,hidthemselves
inthedensandintherocksofthemountains;andsaid
tothemountains androcks. Fall onus, and hideus
fromthefaceofHimthatsittethonthethrone,and
fromthewrathoftheLamb: forthegreatdayofHis
wrathiscome;andwhoshallbeabletostand?"
Whatdoesthis scripturemean? Whatisthesig-
nificance of theheaven's being removed as a scroll
thatisrolledup? Evidentlysomegreatchangeinthe
atmosphere isindicated. Another writerdescribesit
in these terms: "The atmosphere parted and rolled
back." ("EarlyWritings,"page41.)
Theseexpressions certainlyconvey theideaof an
openingoftheheavens totheeye of man,not now
possible.
