In imagination,Hecarriedhim back tocreation's
morning,thenoutintothegreatuniverse,andfinally
broughthimtothesimplest, mostfamiliarthingsof
theworldabouthim,causinghimtorealizethatevery-
where are questions unanswered and problems un-
solved—mysteries too high for man's mind in this
hisinfantstateandinthesehisfewyearsofsojourn.
Butifhecouldnotsolveintellectuallytheproblems
ofhislife.Job, faceto facewiththe Creator,could
realizeGod'sloveandgoodness,andatonceresigned
himself to the peace and holy shelter of the ever-
lastingarms.
TheCreator's questions to Job call to ourminds
someofthemysteriesallaboutus. These mysteries
mean, firstofall, thatthere is still somethingmore
forustolearn,amineofrichesasyetallunexplored.
Thesemysteriesshouldteachusmodesty,andproduce
inus,whilewegropeandponder,awillingnesstowait
forthefullunfoldingofthetruth.
Much hasbeen saidand writtenconcerninglight.
Many think it is quite fullyunderstood. But it is
not. In someofitssimplestaspects,itis stillapro-
found,impenetrablemystery. God,whenHeappeared
toJob,askedhimthestillunansweredquestion,"By
whatwayisthehghtdistributed?" Job 38 :24,literal
translation.
Someinourdaywouldsaythattheanswertothis
question isverysimple. "Lightis distributed,"they
say, "by vibrations, or waves, in the luminiferous
ether." And then this lucid definition is explained
somewhatas follows:
