Themastersaid,"Well,Ihavealreadysaidtoomuchabout

Thisstateofinner consciousness, aboutwhichwe cannot
makeanylogicalstatement,mustberealizedbeforewecanhave
amyintelligenttalkonZen.Wordsareonlyanindextothisstate

throughthemweareenabledtogetintoitssignification,butdo
notlooktowordsforabsoluteguidance.Trytoseefirstofallin
whatmentalstatetheZenmastersaresoacting.Theyarenot
carryingonallthoseseemingabsurdities,or,assomemightsay,
thosesillytriviahties,justtosuittheircapriciousmoods.They
haveacertainfirmbasisoftruthobtainedfromadeeppersonal
exp>erience.Thereisinalltheirseeminglycrazyperformancesa
systematicdemonstrationofthemostvitaltruth.Whenseenfi-om
thistruth,eventhemo\ingofthewholeuniverseisofnomore
accountthantheflyingofamosquitoorthewa\dngofafan.The
thingistoseeonespiritworkingthroughoutallthese,whichisan
absoluteaffirmation,withnotaparticleofnihilisminit.
