creates the sense of a “baseline.” Referring to this edition as
the baseline plan signifies that this is the plan that everyone
will work toward, and that this is the plan from which you will
measure project variances.


  • Potential Problem Analysis. Potential Problem Analysis is
    a risk management technique to identify what may go
    wrong on your project, so that you can take steps to com-
    pensate. Although a PPA can be performed at any time,
    an excellent time is immediately after creating the project
    plan. The PPA process normally generates a lot of docu-
    mentation. You should keep copies of these documents in
    your project files.
    Execution and Control Documents
    During the third phase, the Execution Phase, the prescribed
    work is performed. As project manager, you continuously moni-
    tor progress and you make and record appropriate adjustments
    as variances from the original plan. Throughout this phase, the
    project team remains focused on meeting the objectives devel-
    oped at the outset of the project.
    Figure 11-5 illustrates the key documents that should be
    created as part of project execution and control.
