the owner of the database that your ID and password are set up correctly. If you can get the IP
address of the server, try pinging this from the MS-DOS prompt to see if there is a response
(use ping ).
If all has gone well, you will see the next screen, which proves that you now have a
connection. At the top of the screen is a check box for “Change the Default Database to.” Set
this and the drop-down of databases will be enabled.
Use the drop-down to locate the database you need. There may be several databases on the
server and your ID may well only work with one of them.
Click Next to move to the next screen and then click Finish. Select Test Data Source on
the final screen and you will see a message of success. Click OK and then click OK in the
original ODBC Administrator window to close it.


Using a DSN


You now have a valid DSN you can use within Access. On the Access menu, click External
Data and then click the ODBC icon in the Import & Link group of the ribbon. You will now
see a pop-up, as shown in Figure 19-4.
