within the table. Normally, you would be given read-only access since it is very dangerous to
modify data in a relational database if you do not understand the relationships.
You will see your external linked tables appear in the Navigation pane of Access. You can
use these tables in the same way as if they were internal tables within your Access applications,
with the exception of changing the structure.


Problems Using Linked Tables


A problem can occur when using linked tables if the location of the target database changes.
When linking to another Access database, it frequently happens that the target database is
moved to another server, in which case your application will cease to function.
You can use Linked Table Manager to sort this out. Click External Data in the Access
Menu and then click the Linked Table Manager icon in the Import & Link group of the
ribbon. This will display a pop-up window, as shown in Figure 19-5.
