Syllabic consonant
A consonant that is lengthened so that it becomes a whole syllable, even without a
vowel. The consonants /n/, /l/, and /r/ can sometimes be a full syllable by
themselves. This most often happens after a stressed syllable that ends in an alveolar
consonant.
