1212 Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa gives Christians control of cen-
tral Spain and marks the beginning of the end of Muslim rule
in Spain.
1235 Cordoba captured. Seville follows in 1248.
1340 At the Battle of Rio Salado, Alfonso XI routs a Marinid con-
tingent, the last wave of African tribes to move into Spain.
1492 Granada, the last Muslim bastion in Spain, falls.
