24 • MODULE EIGHT: PREVENTING AND LIVING WITH HIV
Session Three: Living with HIV
Objectives
At the end of the session the children will learn to:
- Understand what universal precautions are and
how they can protect themselves; - Learn to be sensitive to the problems of children
infected with and affected by HIV; and - Find ways to empathize and care for children
living with HIV/ AIDS.
Key Points
Caring for someone with HIV is safe if universal
precautions are followed. Children and families
living with HIV have the right to be treated with
dignity. If we care and love someone who is living
with HIV, we can help them and ourselves in many
ways. If we show compassion, others in the
community are likely to follow. The activities in
the module on “Coping with feelings” may be
useful here.
