As an enthusiastic watcher of Pointless (BBC1),
I feel bemused as to where on Earth they get
the test audience of 100 whose pre-programme
“answers” constitute the answers to the questions.
The standard of ignorance among some is
astonishing. “Which Queen married Prince Albert?
Twenty-eight didn’t know. Communication system
of dots and dashes introduced in 1844? Thirty-five
didn’t know. Do they use five-year-old children?
