Freemans, there is neon art,
houndstooth wallpaper and shelves
lined with “the girls” — her collection
of multicoloured wigs. The next
project on her Chatelaine to-do list is
finishing the cocktail bar in the turret
room and creating a roof garden on
top of the building in time for the
summer, possibly with a croquet lawn
or featuring crazy golf.
Murphy says: “We just have fun,
don’t we, Nick? If we book to go away
anywhere, even if it’s a really nice
hotel, I feel like it’s not as nice as here.
The house has changed our whole
lives. We will never leave. When we get
old, we will get Stannah stairlifts up to
the bar.”

hall features tropical murals by
Avalana Design, including a sunburst
on the ceiling, a feathered chandelier
by Coldharbour Lights and a pair of
ifesize lavender poodle ornaments.
The knick-knacks keep arriving.
The makeover will never be complete.
Recent additions include an antique
cabinet from eBay filled with orange
and lemon-themed ceramics for the
hallway, chequerboard flooring from
Carpetright in the kitchen, a zebra
carpet for the living room, part of
Tapi’s Safari collection, and a mural on
he first-floor landing by Daniel Bland,
a friend and fellow Interior Design
Masters contender. Murphy and
Wilson work from home — Wilson in
a monochrome office.
