LEARNING PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Your learning program, and the associated improvement project, will follow
the Six Sigma methodology known as the “DMAIC Model”. DMAIC is an
acronym that represents the sequential steps of the improvement process
that will ensure a measurable and meaningful return on the training
investment.

The DMAIC Model
The DMAIC method organizes the improvement process, with each phase
designed to drive a successful project outcome. In the Define phase we charter
the improvement project relative to business objectives. The Measure phase
allows us to establish a performance baseline in order to evaluate solution
effectiveness. The Analyze phase is where we identify the causes of variation
or sub-optimized reliability that must be resolved in order to improve the
measured performance. In the Improve phase we deploy the
countermeasures and solutions, recommended through analysis, which will
drive performance towards the chartered target condition. Finally, during the
Control phase we will audit solution effectiveness and adjust those
management systems that are required to sustain performance
improvements.
Practical Application Requirements (PAR)
In order to demonstrate your understanding of each learning topic, and to
facilitate the application of core skills within the learning improvement
project, you will be expected to complete Practical Application Requirements
throughout the learning program.
Demonstrate-level PAR:
- Practical, programmed learning activities that are administered by
Coaches in order to practice new skills as a controlled experiment. - Activities are designed to immerse learners in a new experience in
order to create a desire and ability to apply the skills associated with
each competency. - Activities are graded by Coaches who provide immediate feedback to
learners.
Application-level PAR:
- Improvement projects are used to facilitate the re-application of
demonstrated skills. - Projects provide a means for experimental discovery and self-
evaluation by each learner.
