Focusing on Reliability at OSB


Review Pillar 3 parts of case study:


▪ The OSB mill was able to identify what a good equipment maintenance plan looks like, how to develop and implemented it on select pieces of equipment.
▪ Investigation (based on the findings from Pillar 2) on the caul return conveyors and upgrading of the VFDs. The result is a reduction of 3440 minutes, from
4406 in 2012 to 966 in 2013, contributing to $500,000 in <12 months
▪ Utilizing RCA and RCM, the underlying issues from the surface line liquid blender were eliminated. These tools enabled the team to find and eliminate the
issues due to plugging and controls on the atomizers and wax application systems. The wax system had design and maintainability issues that were
resolved.
▪ The output of the RCM was an Equipment Maintenance Plan, which enabled accurate, repeatable and value-added PMs.
▪ The SL Blender’s downtime was reduced through RCA and RCM from 212 minutes per month to less than 81 minutes per month, resulting in a savings of
$260,000.
