addition to its Instax range of hybrid
instant fi lm cameras, the Mini LiPlay
(pronounced ‘Lee-Play’). The camera is
based around a small 1/5-inch sensor, which
captures 2560 x 1920 pixel images. These
can then be printed by the camera at 2.4 x
1.8 inches (62 x 46mm), or stored. For the
fi rst time on a Mini version of the Instax, the
camera features a bigger LCD, which is 2.
inches, with 230k dots. The lens, meanwhile,
is equivalent to 28mm f/2 in 35mm terms.
Up to 45 images can be stored in the
internal memory, and there is a slot for a
microSD/SDHC memory card. Built-in
Bluetooth also enables you to send the
images to an Instax printer. Other goodies
include a built-in fl ash; a front-mounted
mirror to aid selfi e-taking; extra image
frames; and a mic button, which can record
up to 10 seconds of audio and embedded in
a picture via a QR code. You can also control
the device via your phone with the LiPlay
app. The Instax Mini LiPlay is on sale now for

shortlist revealed
THE SHORTLIST for this year’s Insight
Investment Astronomy Photographer of
the Year (POTY) has been revealed, featuring
images as diverse as a bird-shaped aurora
spreading its wings; a bright display of
noctilucent clouds over Thurso beach, north
Scotland; and an 1860s pier illuminated by the
purple hues of our galaxy. The competition,
which is run by the Royal Observatory
Greenwich, is now in its 11th year and this
year’s competition received over 4,600 entries
from 90 countries – a new record.
Judges include comedian and keen amateur
astronomer, Jon Culshaw; Art Editor of BBCSky at Night magazine, Steve Marsh; and a
range of experts from the worlds of art and
astronomy. The winners of the competition’s
nine categories and two special prizes will be
announced on Thursday, 12 September, at
an award ceremony at the National Maritime
Museum, London. The winning images will also
be exhibited at the museum from Friday, 13
September, alongside some exceptional
shortlisted images. Winners and shortlisted
entries will be published in the competition’s
offi cial book, which will be available in

POTY 2019 shortlistPRO-FOCUSED editing and workfl ow tool,
Capture One, has been updated. Version
12.1. now includes a Grid Tool instead of the
previous grid menu, to make cropping and
framing easier. The Overlay tool is also faster,
enabling more precise adjustments.
In addition, the company has released
a business-oriented program, Capture One
Studio. As well as a barcode scanner to help
e-commerce users, Studio features powerful
tools for adding and customising metadata and
keywords, a Guides tool to help with image
alignment, a password-protected workspace
