national center for complementary and alternative medicine five-year strategic plan 2001–2005

(Frankie) #1

National Center for Complementary and Alterna-
tive Medicine wishes to extend its sincerest grati-
tude to the many organizations and individuals
who contributed to the development of this plan.
A special note of thanks goes to those who
helped shape the draft strategic plan of NCCAM ‘s
predecessor, the Office of Alternative Medicine.
Through their efforts, NCCAM was provided a
well-developed foundation upon which to build.
We thank NCCAM staff and members of the
National Advisory Council on Complementary and
Alternative Medicine, who subsequently crafted
and provided input to multiple iterations of the
document as it evolved to its final form. We are
also grateful to the directors and other senior offi-
cials at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and
the Department of Health and Human Services,
whose broad perspectives have been incorporated
to enrich the document substantially.
Finally, we acknowledge the efforts of over
200 individuals and organizations that reviewed
the draft plan on NCCAM’s Web site during the
six-week period it was posted for public comment.
It is their thoughtful responses that guided us in
our attempts to create a document that is mean-
ingful to multiple audiences and better accommo-
dates the divergent sensibilities of our many
stakeholders.
We look forward to collaborating further as we
implement our first strategic plan.
